Dad’s Campgrounds

The Last Small Town in America

Some folks want a resort. We built something better — a place where the neighbor kids show up at your door, the fishing’s free, and nobody’s in a hurry.

Built by a Father.

Carried by His Son.

Dave DeWitt came home from Vietnam a captain. He didn’t talk much about what he saw over there. What he did instead was take his boy Blake down to the river.

They’d fish the cold water near their Michigan campsite until the light went flat. Later, when the family moved to Texas, Dave would take Blake to the park and throw horse apples until one of them finally quit laughing. That was Dave’s answer to most things — get outside, stay together, keep it simple.

Years later, Blake became a father himself — to his son Vincent — and started seeing those memories differently. Not as nostalgia. As a blueprint. Dad’s Campgrounds exists because Blake and Dave went looking for places that still felt like that river in Michigan. They found them. Hand-picked every one. Now they’re making sure those places survive.

“He never had to say what mattered. He just showed me.”

Our Promise to You

“We didn’t set out to build a campground empire. We set out to find places where people could exhale — and make sure those places still exist.
